I am excited to present to you our first feature of Sass Stories! Because I am proudly involved in our sass community, I wanted to give you an inside look on some of the amazingly witty and clever sass makers and designers out there. Lindsey Warriner of Warren Tales is no exception.
I first met Lindsey at Paper Camp for Tradeshow Bootcamp in 2014 (in which she won a full scholarship to attend btw!) and we have been craft and tradeshow buddies since then.
How did you get started in your business?
I’d always been obsessed with all things paper, but became smitten with greeting cards in College and quickly started scouring shelves for the well-designed, well-made, and well-phrased. It became a fast passion and I began following small presses like bands—pining for a new release or limited print run—until finally, I was struck with the cockamamie idea of going into business.
How long ago?
I officially set up shop in January 2013, so we’re already in our 4th year now! How time flies, and how many more years to enjoy as they come.
Three adjectives to describe you personally?
Witty, Dorky, and Kind.
What inspires you and your craft?
I’ve always been a writer, as well as a visual person, so Warren Tales is how I process and express the world around me. Most of my designs are created for someone in my life—if not literally, then as a way of sharing their goodness or to communicate something unsaid.
How would you describe your brand?
The Warren Tales brand is bright, fun, and clever: I love big pops of color, designing interactive products, and pairing them with creative messages.
If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Turkey sandwiches with sharp cheddar/brie and a variety of spreads, apparently, because I’ve eaten that almost every day for lunch for the last few years. That and Oreo cookie milkshakes, because hell yes.
Favorite movie?
A Very Long Engagement (directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou)
Which song is your guilty pleasure?
I will always have a soft spot for “Say You’ll Be There” by the Spice Girls. How terribly British of me.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
Definitely to speak every language—just think how many more puns I could make! So clearly, I’d use it for evil.
What did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I think my favorite pipe dream was to be a stunt woman. Badass, even as a babe.
What’s on the very top of your travel bucket list?
I want to see the northern lights—either from inside a luxury glass igloo in Finland, or simply camping in a secluded area, anywhere. But seriously, anyone want to spot me that igloo?
Anything else you’d like to share?
I enjoy writing
poetry, so I’ve written
a haiku for you.
Thanks so much, Lindsey! And big congratulations on being a 2017 Louie Award finalist for your Roses are Red card below. Lots of luck!
